When a Trainers Role Really has MEANING.

When a Trainers Role Really has MEANING.

With a working life of over 50 years, I have done some interesting and varied things in this time. Anything from managing Football and Golf Clubs, Importing and Distributing Golf Carts, owning a Petrol Station, distributing LPG in SE Qld, Vac Truck operator and Locator, Quality and Compliance manager at several RTO’s, through to owning my own RTO (Registered Training Organisation).

My role at Locating Unlimited over the years has afforded me some wonderful experiences having delivered training throughout Australia, both islands of New Zealand, Fiji, PNG, China and Japan.

I am currently on a flight back to Australia after completing my 6th trip to PNG, and in all honesty, this has been one of, if not the most rewarding training trips that I have made. Three separate, 2 day sessions and only focusing on Locating. 28 Nationals attended in groups of 8 and 10 and I have never worked with groups that were so focused and wanting to learn.

Training a group that is enthusiastic and eager to learn is one of the most rewarding experiences for any trainer. There’s a unique energy in the room when participants show genuine curiosity and engagement. It not only elevates the learning environment but also fosters a sense of collaboration and shared goals. As a trainer, witnessing progress and growth in such a group adds meaning and motivation to every session, creating a dynamic exchange where both trainer and trainees are continuously inspired.

When learners are open, attentive, and ready to ask questions, it enriches the entire learning experience. Such groups tend to absorb more, leading to better retention and skill development. For a trainer, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing that the knowledge imparted is making a lasting impact, equipping individuals with the tools they need to succeed.

Working with these teams, in basically a third world environment and seeing the joy that they have because someone is taking an interest in them and because they are learning something new, something that may be life-changing for them. The possibility of advancements in their work life is ever present.

It was my privilege to meet and work with these individuals.
